Good model building begins with the basics, some good modeling building tools. In the video beneath you can see what you need.

For the ones that not wish to see the whole video, i have written down all the tools in the list below:

Organizing your tools is good. I use a clever pen holder, which is good for holding things like brushes.

The bigger tools can be kept in a small box.

All kinds of glue for all kinds of purposes.

Sturing, holding while painting and cotton dub sticks.

A filler is a must have for every model builder. Plasto from Revell is a good one.

Lead weights, to hold the tail of heavy planes on the ground and white tack to secure them.

Tweezers are essential for the hard to reach places. Mirrors are useful to.

A magnifying glass to get better detail.

Sand paper is prior to make things smooth.

You could have a razor blade but a Exacto blade is recommended.

Sprue cutters are also very effective.

Different types of files.

You will definitely kneed all kinds sized brushes.

A pin vice is important to make tiny holes.

A piece of polystyrene and rubber bands come in use.

Small scissors to cut out your decals.

Clamps to hold the wing together and you will get no splits in join lines.

Some plastic cups to hold your paint.

Masking tape is very important.

Gloves to keep your hands clean and your model clean.

Cloths for the brushes.

Having a nice and organized desk will help you build your model quicker and everything stays cleaner.

Create a worn look with MIG pigment and Humbrol tinner for model “wash”. Revell Olive Aqua paint is good for the worn look on your model.

Revell aqua colors for painting! Humbrol has also some nice color schemes.

A cutting mat of course, otherwise your beautiful underground get scratched.

Stretched sprue to rig your model.

A paint reference is a good guide so you know which paint to buy.

One of the most recognizable names in the plastic model industry is Revell. In 1986, Revell was purchased and merged with another U.S.-based model company, Monogram, to form Revell/Monogram (Revell’s name was placed first because of greater name recognition). Revell and Revell Germany currently offer different submarine models, including: the 1/72 scale U.S. GATO Class Submarine, the 1/125 scale U99 German U-Boat, the 1/144 scale U214 German U-Boot, the 1/180 scale U.S.S. Lionfish, the 1/253 scale Polaris Nuclear Submarine U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln and the 1/350 scale German U-Boot Type VIIC.

You can see and purchase any one of these great model kits at: http://www.towerhobbies.com/ and http://www.rocketfin.com/submarine-scale-model-kits.cfm. You can also find great submarine model kits at your neighborhood Hobby Shop, you can find them in the local Yellow Pages.

For those that want a more realistic model, there are remote control conversion kits for several different models. Kits can come completely assembled (recommended for the less experienced sub-modeler). Although a bit on the expensive side, these conversion kits are totally high tech. One good example is D & E Sub-Divers and their W.T.C. (water tight cylinder – a term coined by its inventor David D Merriman lll). The W.T.C. contains 3 compartments named: the Engine Room, the Ballast Tank and the Battery Room. Standard kits include: a propeller adapter, a gas servo, a vent valve, a gas blow valve, magnetic couplers, push-rod seals and prop shaft seals. Conversion kits available for manufacturer’s models include: Trumpeter’s 1/144 scale U.S. Seawolf Class attack sub and the Russian Kilo, Revell’s 1/72 scale U.S. GATO Class Submarine and the German Type VII U-Boot, Revell’s 1/144 scale German Type 212 Submarine and Moebius Models’ 1/128 scale Seaview Submarine (from the movie “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea”).
Another resource for radio controlled submarine models is Alexander Engel KG – a German manufacturer with an excellent reputation for innovative and detailed models. The Engel submarine fleet includes 9 models of submarines from the United States, Germany and Russia. Diving, propulsion and other options (such as operational conning towers and retractable front dive planes) are available for various models. There are even basic non-mechanized models available. Each submarine kit features a glassfiber hull. You can find more information or make a purchase on Engel’s website at: http://www.engel-modellbau.de/catalog/index.php?cPath=3&osCsid=cb0df95b2be5e4035c63e93656cfca8d.
